Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is one of the oldest forms of medicine dating back over 3000 years ago. Pre-sterilized, disposable, single-use, stainless steel needles, just larger than a strand of human hair, are inserted in the skin. Needles are retained in the skin for 30 minutes. It is proposed that acupuncture works at regulating the nervous system, changing the release of neurotransmitters, and neurohormones.

The goal of acupuncture is to circulate qi ‘chee’ (energy pathways or meridians) in a continuous and unobstructed manner for bodily health. Acupuncture points lie along meridians that correspond to organs throughout the body. Some of the points may not seem to make sense; such as for head pain, needles may be in the hands or feet. Acupuncture is widely recognized as an effective form of treatment for many health problems.
